Hi, I’m Ruth Honor, a jewellery maker from Falmouth, Cornwall.  My practice is informed by reflecting on the impact of the processes and materials I use.

Throwaway culture is something that concerns me greatly, therefore when creating my pieces, I utilise everyday materials such as coffee, eco silver and beach plastics, giving them a completely new identity that can be appreciated. I want to do the materials justice for the workers that source them and reduce the strain on any new resources. My main aim is for my choice in materials to become completely unrecognisable through my work, so people appreciate the process and not just the final result.

The inclusion and idea of “Honor” through my work is very important to me, my work is all about honouring the materials I use, prompting people to question what really makes the jewellery valuable. I feel where, how or who you got your jewellery from is arguably what makes it most precious and valuable, therefore the process of upcycling is really important. Homage to my Great Aunt Honor is also paid, a young dairy farmer of the 1930’s, a true feminist of her time.

When I’m not busy making in my workshop, you will often find me at the beach amongst the Cornish coastline, collecting small treasures or observing nature to inspire new work.

I am a participating member of ACJ Cornwall and Precious Collective – both collaborative groups showcasing Cornish work locally and internationally.
